art crush :: austin kleon

one of my new year's resolutions that hasn't quite been accomplished yet is buying more art. not anything crazy expensive or well-known or something, but just little pieces that speak to me, that i can afford. i'm still holding out for a sally king benedict, of course. but until then, there is so much good stuff on 20x200. do you ever check out that site? have you bought anything? one of my favorites is Austin Kleon's Newspaper Blackout Poems, where he used a sharpie marker on old newspapers to let a different kind of story to emerge. this kind of art isn't for everyone, but heck, isn't that the point?

sally king benedict :: bridal peplum

so sally king benedict is one of my favorite artists. she is charleston-based, so talented, and every interview i read with her, i like her more and more. i mean, look at these images from her feature in Matchbook Magazine. can she be my best friend already?

i remembered yesterday, because of the strange, strange way my brain works, that she wore a peplum wedding gown. and had an incredibly beautiful wedding. check it out:

grey + gold sitting in a tree

I'm smitten with this watch, and like to visit it a lot and stare lovingly at its face and handsome Roman numerals. It's just got me lusting after all things grey and gold.

dear tupelo :: dorm decor

today's dear tupelo letter comes from jenna. miss jenna is a PYT who might even be too young to know what a PYT is. she lives with my baby sister, at college, where they just go around nursing it up by day, breaking hearts by night.  jenna is sick of staring at the bare, institutional walls of her dorm room. no fear, j!

given that we are working with a college budget and without the option of paint, let's look at a few different directions ...

o p t i o n   o n e   ::   c o l l a g e   w a l l

this first one is an actual dorm room. check out the rest here. prepare to freak your freak.

o p t i o n   t w o  ::   m a p s   a s   d e c o r

o p t i o n   t h r e e  ::   n o n  -  t r a d i t i o n a l

get a big bulletin board and paint it or cover it with fabric. and then tack up all your inspiration.

think about climbing the walls with a floating shelf. or a sapian bookcase.

a sunburst mirror makes a big impact

upcycle: bag art!

last but not least: make a garland

hope this helps, little sugar. be sure and take some before & after shots for us!

love, tupelo

vintage envelope art.

apparently if your name is george, people mail you things in massive envelopes. it's probably those giant golf tournament checks. i kind of love these, first of all. and second, i am thinking about making one. who has a letter to george lying around? give it here.

equestrian lessons.

celtic legend (the only legend we can trust) tells us that horses are symbolic of "midnight and mystery" which is pretty sexy if i dare say. it's no wonder they've been rearing their pretty little heads all over decor for a while now. it's a trend i L O V E, and it's a chic and classy move to add one of these midnight riders into your space. one of these days, i'll do an etsy round-up of all the equine goodness for purchase. but for now, the inspiration. also: how about the one that looks like it's jumping onto your bed: killer or kill me? i think i'm the latter..
