inspired by :: black & white kitchens
some common elements that make these attractive: there is more white/light than dark, so these don't feel somber. and the black is low, below your eye level, which is grounding and pleasing, not overly intense. and the designers of these spaces used other materials (like the shiny industrial metals and the rustic, homey wood) to temper the stark/graphic-ness that black and white can lead to.
