fresh beginnings

ahhh, january 2. this day can feel like a drag, right? back to reality after the warmth and joy and celebration of the holidays. but maybe we could make a little effort to not leave those things behind, and instead bring them with us into the new year. let's start with a clean, light, airy space to work, like this one. let's do the same kind of clean-up on our insides, too. and i don't mean juice cleanses and super-marathon goals or something. unless that's your thang, in which case, let it rip. i mean carving out a little space to dwell on real visions for the coming year. i don't know about you, but i love this time of refocusing and reshaping and reimagining. i don't think resolutions have have to be stressful and trappy and unattainable. in fact, they can be kind of freeing... a list of intentions to guide you in the coming months. let's be gentle on ourselves and take good care of one another, and nurture in our physical spaces, as well as our relationships, with the kind of love and light we would like to see all around. this feels like a good alternative to feeling negative and hopeless and complainy, and like one more word about the fiscal cliff may send one jumping off a cliff of the non-fiscal kind.
cheers to you all; here is to putting our best selves humbly forward in the coming year.

happy new year

happy new year, my friends. and sorry for the unexpected blog break. it felt silly and kind of careless to post about decor pretties right after sandy hook; it felt instead like we should travel home and spend time with our family and remember the joy and light and love that comes with christmas. hope you had a wonderful holiday and hope the heavy hearts in connecticut and beyond begin to heal. here's to a beautiful 2013.

a simply, pretty christmas

how is everyone feeling today? still in a food coma, or reinvigorated by the cyber monday deals? hope that your thanksgiving was relaxing and sweet. we had a great time eating with B's football team. let me tell you, if you think a hungry preggo can't compete with huge d-linemen at dinner, well ... you're right. they beat me by a mile. vegetarians really can't hang at the turkey day table with anyone. and also, those boys just don't mess around. fun fact: they made twenty-two turkeys for the football team and coaches. yowsa.

i'm excited to turn the page and focus on  c h r i s t m a s ! my hope this year is to keep it simple and keep it sweet and to treasure the little things ... riding around to look at snowy lights, watching Love Actually three thousand times, jamming to mariah carey's and otis redding's christmas albums, making our holiday cards, drinking hot cocoa and decorating ... and of course: going home to see our families for one last visit before this little bebe comes. so won't you join me in getting merry and bright and refusing to be stressed?

couldn't resist posting this one ... 100% my favorite couple in Love Actually

reimagining the look of Easter

you guys. don't get me wrong; i am all about easter in the eternal life kind of way. and i'm also very happy to celebrate the end of lent. this year, i gave up shopping, so you best believe i was adding bobbi brown products to my shopping cart by the time i got back to my seat after communion. namely the cleansing oil i mentioned (have you bought it yet? is everyone at work mistaking you for the fresh young intern?)
anyway. i don't get where the bunny part came in. and the candy and the vomming pastel everywhere. i love the idea of renewal and redemption and new life and a fresh start. and brunch food. so can we reinvent the decor and tablescapes? and maybe resolve to throw away anything in the plastic egg family? or with a cotton ball glued onto it?
i've been playing around with the champagne ratio in the mimosa this morning, so i'm going to just my pinterest do the talking.

farewell 2011

happy new year, loves. one last night to sparkle and shine. or to wear sweatpants and drink champagne on your couch. no judgement here.

some things we need to catch up on.

1. i am obsessed with learning how to do this. oh yes. i'm going to learn. then i'm going to fishtail all up in yo face. {p.s. is this girl's hair down to her ankles when not fishy?}

2. i have been thinking about this loo all day. do you know how embarrassing it is to admit you think about bathrooms all day? but the art, people. and the texture. and the lavender. and the light. and when you don't have a mirror in the bathroom, you can't even see your pores. {get it? or is that the wine joking?}

3. I have a heart-warming Christmas story to share. Once a girl (me) was making a gift guide for her blog friends (you) and she put these boots on it. Then, under a starry Christmas sky, she found them at her local TJ Maxx for a fraction of the price. And all was merry and bright.
